I took a sports ethics class for my major while abroad in Cyprus. I expected the ethical standards in Cyprus to differ greatly from those set in the United States, but through this, I discovered that ethical standards for sports are mostly the same across the world. For this class, we had to write a report on a topic of our choosing and had to reflect on the topic from a chosen ethical perspective. I chose the recent sexual assault scandal with Hockey Canada, specifically with goaltender Carter Hart. From this assignment, I learned how to write a formal report analyzing an ethical situation. This adds more dimension to the variety of genres that I can write, and reflects the career that I want to pursue, which is in the medical field of sports, where ethics is very important.
