Biomedical Ethics: Racism in Healhcare

Freshman year, I took a biomedical ethics class for my common curriculum. We discussed many topics in this class, ranging from eugenics to racism to IVF. For one of the required papers, I wrote about racism in healthcare, specifically about Black women and their experiences. This assignment allowed me to take what I already knew, what I had learned in the class, and outside research, and put it into one writing piece. Writing this was out of my comfort zone, as I had never written a medical-adjacent paper. It is important to get out of your comfort zone when writing, whether it is writing a new type of paper or writing about a subject that you or others may find tough to discuss.
